We are excited to announce that PowerBuilder 2019 R3 GA version and InfoMaker 2019 R3 GA version, build 2670, are officially released and available for downloading!

New Features and Bug Fixes

  • PowerScript development (PowerBuilder IDE, PowerBuilder Runtime, and PowerBuilder Compiler)
    • A new project type, PowerClient, is introduced and it enables seamless installation and self-updating for PowerBuilder applications regardless of client/server or cloud-native architecture.
    • PowerBuilder IDE and PowerBuilder Runtime are decoupled for separate installation and upgrade. Developers can switch the runtime version used for running, debugging, and compiling your application. It also enables developers to get enhancements to the IDE without affecting runtime, maintain multiple projects with various runtime versions, and easily revert back runtime versions.
    • Provides a demo app to demonstrate how to easily enrich PowerBuilder with modern interactive charts.
    • The WebBrowser control has been enhanced to easily integrate JavaScript with PowerScript, both synchronously and asynchronously. Besides being able to securely display Web content, developers can enrich their apps with new visual possibilities and JavaScript functionality. It also supports basic or digests authentication.
    • Source control managements have been improved:
      • Supports automatically refreshing all PBLs after downloading the source code from the server (Git and SVN);
      • Supports creating and switching branches in the PowerBuilder IDE (Git only);
      • Supports moving the project along with its source control bindings to a new location without needing to bind with the source control again (Git and SVN);
    • The license mechanism is improved for one user account to log into more than one version on the same machine simultaneously. (Note that this feature will work in 2019 R3 and all subsequent releases, but not in any of the previous releases.)
    • Double-clicking an object (such as applications, DataWindow object, windows, menus, user objects, functions, etc.) in the Browser window can open the painter associated with the object.
    • When a DataWindow column is set to the DropDownDW edit style and associated with a DataWindow object, you can right click the DataWindow column and then select Modify DropDownDW... to directly open and edit the associated DataWindow object in the painter.
    • Supports creating a PBR (PowerBuilder resource) file to list the resource names used by the RibbonBar control and compiling the PBR with the application executable.
    • JSONParser and JSONGenerator are enhanced to support getting and setting an item by path, and handling special values.
    • The HTTPClient object has added a validation of ignoring certain types of server certificate error and a revocation checking for server certificate when sending a request.
    • The 64-bit version of the TX Text Control is supported.
    • Supports Microsoft UI Automation to offer a richer set of properties and extended interfaces to manipulate not only standard controls but also custom controls such as PowerBuilder DataWindows and child controls in DataWindows.
    • Supports the Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server (MSOLEDBSQL).
    • Supports PowerBuilder application connecting with the Microsoft SQL Server database through TLS 1.2 (using either MSOLEDBSQL SQL Server or SNC SQL Native Client interface).

For more new features and detailed information, please see here.

For bug fixes, please see here.

  • C# migration & development (SnapDevelop, .NET DataStore, and PowerScript Migrator)
    • Enhanced Docker Support.
    • Async Methods for Web API Projects.
    • Added support for .NET Core 3.1.
    • Added support for ASE and HANA database and cloud database servers.
    • Database tables can be directly converted to C# models in the DB Server Explorer.
    • The scaffolding UI layout has been re-designed with a more streamlined and logical structure.
    • Optimized debugging in exception management, breakpoint settings, and asynchronous debugging, etc.
    • PowerScript Migrator now supports batch translation.
    • DataWindow Converter enhancements:
      • More model generation settings;
      • Generating DataContext available during Model Export;
      • Provides redirection links to Child DataWindows.

For more new features and detailed information, please see here.

For bug fixes, please see here.

  • Application deployment (PowerServer (PB Edition), PowerServer Toolkit, etc.)
    • The following latest software is supported:
      • iOS 14
      • Android 11

Important note: If you reinstall PowerBuilder 2019 R2/R3, make sure to reinstall PowerServer Toolkit 2020 MR after it. Otherwise, PowerServer Toolkit will fail to work.

For bug fixes, please see here.

  • InfoMaker
    • The InfoMaker runtime files are separated from the IDE to be PowerBuilder Runtime, which is used by both the PowerBuilder IDE and InfoMaker IDE.
    • Supports using "Built-in TX Text Control ActiveX 28.0" as the rich text editor.
    • Supports the Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server (MSOLEDBSQL).

For more new features and detailed information, please see here.

For bug fixes, please see here.

  • PowerBuilder/InfoMaker Installer
    • Support installing the demo applications to PostgreSQL (in addition to the SQL Anywhere engine).
    • PowerBuilder Runtime can be installed separately from PowerBuilder IDE.
    • PowerBuilder Compiler is provided as a product to install in the PowerBuilder Installer.
    • It is possible to modify installation if you have not fully installed all the products in a certain version.

For more new features and detailed information, please see here.
